Before February came around, we thought as a team that it would be a tough month with the teams we had to face. However, I thought we started well in the game against Kelty Hearts. We had good spells in the first half and were unlucky to go in behind. In the second half we lost our way a bit, maybe chasing the game but there were certainly positives to take from that game. We passed the ball well like we did at the beginning of the season but it was always going to be tough to get a result away at the league leaders.
We then faced Civil Service at home which we knew would be a tough game. They’re really well organised and play well to their strengths. I though we were excellent in the game although when we conceded to go 2-2 it was like deja-vu. We’ve had many games this season where we would’ve gone on to lose the game but the boys showed great character to go and score seven goals in the game, was excellent. We were due a result like that. Going into the Bonnyrigg game, again we knew it was going to be tough. They’re a big physical side who go long and play off second balls but I thought on the whole we dealt with that well. It was again a good team performance but unfortunately we were unable to take the chances to get us a result.
More recently we travelled to East Stirling away. The boys were confident going by the previous performances. We knew we could get something from the game. The first half was a bit scrappy with both teams having chances. However, we started the second half well and Shire got a man sent off. We scored two quick goals and managed to grab the win putting in a great performance.
I think overall we can be happy with the performance level in February, we would’ve like a few more points but it shows us that we can go toe to toe with those challenging for the league. This should give us confidence going into the last few games of the league campaign.
