The Caledonian Braves kick-off the season with a convincing victory at Alliance Park!
With an exciting front four of new signings, the Braves took the lead through a combination of these players in the first half. Zac Butterworth picked up the ball on the right, before slotting in Lennon Walker who deftly slotted in with a cool finish over the on rushing 'keeper.
Camelon showed their quality at times throughout a well competed first half, but Bernie White comfortably dealt with any danger towards his goal, and the Braves deserved their lead at the interval.
One would quickly become two however, as the Braves came out flying in the second half. Lennon Walker picked up the ball in the middle park, before gliding past numerous opposition players. The number 10 found Zac Butterworth on the right who shimmied in and out, before finding a low cross into the box. The ball dropped to Connor McLaren, who made no mistakes with a powerful strike from close range.
Our visitors would respond effectively however, when they bagged a quickfire goal just five minutes later. An inswinging corner flew towards the back post, where an unmarked Liam Taggart was able to take full advantage, and head home from close range.
Both teams would begin to roll the subs around the hour mark, and it was two men off the bench who made the difference for the Braves.
In the 69th minute, Cammy Breadner swung in a delightful free-kick towards the back post, where fellow sub Josh Gemmell connected to head in our third goal.
Three minutes later, the result would then be put to bed when Breadner swung in another delightful ball, this time from a corner, that landed on the head of Daniel Martins. The powerful centre back was able to cushion the ball for Ross McNeil, who headed home for his first of the season.
That would prove to be the final action for the Braves, who were able to utilise their full squad and will continue prepartations away to Forres Mechanics on Friday night.
