Caledonian Braves have secured the services of Rhys Caves on a one-year deal, upon expiration of his contract at Gretna 2008.
Rhys’ signing serves to add creative flair on the wing, which will prove vital in Braves’ attack in the upcoming campaign.
“I played against Caley Braves in my time with Gretna… and I thought they were a good team,” Rhys Caves recalled.
“I think I’ll fit in well… I want to earn as much minutes as possible and contribute to our attack.”
Rhys is a graduate of Dundee United’s prestigious academy, having arrived in 2019 from Rangers’ under-18 side. The 19-year-old gained invaluable experience on two separate loan spells with Airdrieonians in 2021, and Spartans in early 2022.
Following Rhys’ contract expiry with Dundee United in May 2022, the young winger signed with Lowland League side Gretna 2008 ahead of the 2022/23 season.
Caves was impactful in his appearances for the borders-based club last term.
Scoring two goals across a tumultuous season at Raydale Park, Caves’ contribution helped secure Lowland League safety for one half of the ‘Kettle Derby.’
Manager Ricky Waddell admitted “I watched him {Rhys Caves} closely last season at Gretna.”
“I think we can get him to the next level in terms of performance.”
“Rhys will be a very good signing for us.”
Everyone at Caledonian Braves would like to warmly welcome Rhys to the club and are excited to see him perform and achieve success in a Braves jersey.
